Community bank provides customers with Web self-service options by reusing code to build new applications

In this joint session, Synovus and Active Endpoints will explain how reusing proven code to build new applications, regardless of that code's origin, allowed the community bank to provide customers with Web self-service options and other technology benefits usually considered beyond the reach of a smaller institution. By making the most of its programming resources, the bank was able to deliver Web services in line with customers' elevated expectations while keeping its focus on the personal service customers expect from a community bank. Attendees will learn about a successful strategy for building applications with loosely coupled components using ActiveBPEL, follow Synovus' considerations as the institution pursued its SOA strategy and discover the lessons learned along the way. Speaker Bios: Michael Pellegrini is a Principal Architect in the Office of the CTO at Active Endpoints, Inc. For the past 15 years, he has worked for both leading software vendors and IT organizations in moving technology solutions from early-adoption to mainstream acceptance. John Woolbright is Senior Vice President and CTO of Synovus Financial, Inc. He has over 15 years of experience in technology and the financial services industry. His experience includes Card Processing, Branch Automation, ATM, Items Processing, Core Bank Processing, Distributive Systems and E-Commerce Solutions. In addition to his current responsibilities overseeing network operations, information security and application development, Woolbright is responsible for establishing the technology architecture and roadmap that will allow flexible and business driven integration of our customer facing and non-customer facing systems. Every major enterprise technology vendor today has developed its own SOA strategy, supported by innumerable mid-size companies and start-ups offering specific SOA aspects or entire solutions. This explosive growth in SOA technology is in response to a global demand--IDC estimates that spending on SOA services alone will grow from $8.6 billion to more than $33 billion by 2010. SOA World Conference & Expo SOA World Conference & Expo 2007 brings together the best minds in the business to San Francisco for a two-day conference that offers comprehensive coverage of SOA and what it means to enterprise IT today. As Zapthink analyst Jason Bloomberg has noted, "SOA involves rethinking how the business leverages IT in many various ways." Attend SOA World Conference & Expo 2007 West and learn from more than 100 speakers about how SOA is transforming business--and the way IT and business managers think about their businesses, processes, and technology.
