"Real-World" AJAX One- and 2-Day Seminars Frontier Technology: Pushing Ajax to the Limit
Frontier Technology: Pushing Ajax to the Limit
Jun. 5, 2006 10:00 AM
In an ideal world, there'd be no need for the patterns to be presented here. But in practice, the only way to produce truly rich applications is to push the boundaries of standard web technologies. This presentation will flesh out the Ajax edge cases - what we can and can't do, should and shouldn't do. For example, can an Ajax application make URLs bookmarkable? Use encryption? Include sound effects? Based on real-world examples, the talk will describe how people are using standard web technologies in ways that had previously been considered impractical, and highlight browser trends that are opening up new frontiers. And where applications do have to extend beyond those standards and invoke technologies like Flash, the presentation will explain how such extensions can be integrated as seamlessly as possible within an overall Ajax application.
About Michael MahemoffMichael Mahemoff is a hands-on software consultant and the founder of AjaxPatterns.org, an Ajax design reference soon to be published as "Ajax Design Patterns" (O'Reilly) and the creator of the corresponding Ajax Demos. Java/J2EE has been the dominant programming platform in his career and many roles have involved straight-out coding with user-centered design and agile mentoring. Michael's most recent consulting work has been in London's financial sector, developing front-end trading systems on a web platform. Personal projects have used Ruby, PHP, and plain-old Bash. His blog and podcast covers a mix of Ajax, agile, programming, and the occasional usability rant. Building on psychology and software engineering degrees, he completed a PhD on design patterns for usability in 2001.
